If you want something more than just wikipedia or word of mouth, watch these videos. I warn those unfamiliar with the series, though, as the movie sequences are fairly long, especially MGS2 and 3 (MGS2 alone is 12 parts, with over a half hour at each part). Now, there *is* gameplay in it, but this isn't a full game playthrough, it's a Full Story video series. If you're bored, maybe watch one or two of them.
But, once again, realize that the MGS series was meant to be part movie and part game.
