What are your honest opinions about the boss concept?

I find it interesting that some gamers actually go against the whole boss concept. Sometimes I believe their opinions persuade some game developers to only include a couple of bosses if any at all. Personally, I like the boss concept. What are your thoughts?

A boss/rival battle is necesary in most games,it adds up more challenge to the standard game level
Shoot´em up/Beat´em ups/Shump game would be nothing without a single boss,and fighting games will be very boring without a real objective to fight(beat the boss)

If theres no boss theres no game, I especially like game like Assassin creed and such that make boss fights like so cinematic.

NO! Gradius without big Moai Heads, big Cores, big Insects, big Bugs and big Eyes. I can't imagine that!

We need more games like Shadow of the Colossus. (not similar games, just more games where all you do is fight nothing BUT bosses)
