PS3/XBOX 360
« on: February 19, 2008, 08:26:30 AM »
I have had a ps ever since the first one came out but I'm really considering making a change to xbox not ps3. Why?

PROS
1. Many people that I know own one and online play would be a lot better if I know people there.
2. It's cheaper.
3. I'm tired of playing one player all the time.
4. A lot of game I like are now available for both systems.
5. I can live without FF13 and MG4.
6. If I want blue ray I'll just buy the player when it gets cheap.
7. The controllers are better than PS3(No rumble for PS3 what were they thinkin').
8. I've been told online play on PS3 is weak.
9. Get to play all xbox games I missed out on.
10. It's library of games is more extensive right now.
CONS
1.Toshiba announced it was going to stop making HD DVD player today, blue ray is the future.
2.Game size.
3.Free internet service.
4.Have to pull out my PS2 to play my old games.
5.I will miss the directional cross on the ps controllers.
6.1080p.
7.Better role playing games and action/adventure(In my opinion).
8.More features.
9.Expensive but bargain.
10.Sony has more experience in gaming consoles.

Ummmm they are making rumble controllers for the PS3...

also depending on if you are getting a 80GB PS3 there is backwards to the ps2 and ps1.

The online play varies on the connection of the host PS3 and the distance away that host is.

because the PS3 you use acts as a server allowing as many as 32 people on warhawk at the same time!

also keep in mind the PS3 has the six axis of which the 360 does not.

*lol* @ those cons. You didn't even mention the biggest one of them all... the 3 Red Lights of Death! I'd go with a PS3, and yes I used to own a 360 untill is got the 3 Red Lights. That was before they extended the warranty and I had no other choice but to open the system up and manually fix it. A month later they decided to extend the warranty for two years. Just my luck 8=|

But as you said yourself, they share the same games pretty much. What do you get that's exclusive to the 360? Halo? Oh please, there are better games than that. There is also Gears of War & Dead Rising, but that's about it. All the other great games are or will be available on PS3... a more reliable system that won't break down on you in a year or less.

get a 360 only if you like fps. the damn thing is so freaking unrealible. I have had 2 rrod, and people I know have gotten dead units out of the box. get the ps3. you get a great reliable console, with an hd-player and wi-fi built in. plus a bigger hard drive than the pro. with games like metal gear and ff13 coming out you can't go wrong.

Oh I know there are exclusives for PS3. I keep up with that stuff because I want to get one some day. Mostly for Ratchet & Clank and Devil May Cry 4 (even though it's multi, I'm just used to the PS controller for it).

Some other great exclusives...

God of War III
Killzone 2
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Resistance 2 (supposed to have 60 players online!)
Tekken 6
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

... there are more but these are the big ones.

That sums it up, The only good games it has are FPS with a very few exceptions( Dead Rising, Mass Effect though I don't like it, Fable, etc. ). I have a 360 and it's pretty good, it hasn't died on me yet and I think I had had it for a bit more than a year. With Dead Rising, Gears of Wars and Fable that was more than enough I need not more, I don't even play Live. :D

Still, You Can't miss MGS4 and God of War III! :o

As for me, I'm gonna be playing Brawl for Years anyway. ^-^

just get a ps3
u get all the newest games and the best in my opinion (call of duty 4)
online is free whereas xbox live is £30 a year or sumat
since blue ray is the future why not get the ps3 instead of a blueray player unless u wana get a blue ray burner
i used 2 own a 360 and i swapped it for a ps3 (all because of the variety of games which r exclusive)
ps/ps2 i fink eveything single one plays on the ps3 but smackdown HCTP only two players allowed
anyway ur choice

That is true, Free Online is a bigger plus, You pay for a month on Live and you only play about 6 or 8 times, or sometimes you don't get the time to play enough and you have to pay again, they should change it so it means 1 month worth of gameplay.

I like 360 better. Gears Of War,Dead Rising,Dead Or Alive 4,Condemned,lost odyssey.
Plenty of good games on it.  ;D also with Fable 2 and Ninja Gaiden 2 you cant go wrong.

Splinter Cell Conviction looks better than MGS4 INMO and it's currently 360 exclusive.

CONS
6.1080p.

360 is 1080P it was given 1080p along in time ago in a dashboard update

some titles on 360 even support 1080p while the PS3 counterpart doesn't
Sonic The Hedgehog for example.

Well, I haven't made my mind up. In fact I'm more confused now then ever. Why? How many people here are completely unbiased(have played or owned both systems). I'm looking for people that are willing to change if the other system is more appealing. I don't know if I've gotten that yet.

By the vay I can't get both  :'(.

This reminds me of the sega vs nintendo days.

i like 360 more, sure you dont get ff13(but it will probaly be a failure like ff10 and ff12 except the versus),on 360 you can get lost oddysey(without mass effect, this is the only good rpg,and belive me on this one:lost oddysey rocks, the guy who made was the guy who made the first nine final fantasys also),ps3 is gonna mgs4(in contrary of ff13,i have no doubts this will be a good game,it will even be better than brawl) and on 360...(i am being realistc, the closest thing 360 will have to mgs4 is alan wake which looks like a REALLY GOOD GAME!!!!) also condemned 2 and ninja gaiden 2(the first one is already better than heavenly sword and the two looks really good, also condemned will kicks @$$),also too human(another good looking game,360),resident evil 5 and devil may cry 4 are also on 360(plus,you dont have to install to play dmc4 ),culdcept saga(anyone who played the first game knows this game is one of those that had everything to be bad but arent,so play this game,it looks weird but if it is as good as the original its worth playing,i heard operation darkness is good(all i know is that this is a rpg, dont know more),dark sector looks like its gonna kicks @$$,turning point:fall in liberty(looks good),army of two, rainbow six vegas 1(2 will be also released),left 4 dead(how come there isnt any hype for this???,this game looks like its gonna be a good candidate for goty, virtua fighter 5 and dead or alive 4,star wars:the force unleashed, mercenaries 2,harker,a new golden axe, fable 2,banjo-kazooie 3,more multi like borderlandsand bionic commandoandbrutal legend, darksiders(another god of war clone,at least looks better than beowulf but god of war will be better),elveon(must buy),far cry 2 and fallout 3,huxley(you better have Live for this one),the last remnant(all i know is that this is a square-enix rpg),legendary:the box and mafia 2,project offset(me wanna),prototype, soul calibur 4(if you like more of yoda than darth vader)

also games like gears of war, mass effect, halo 3(only for multiplayer) and dead rising are worth the 360

I did played a 360 before...

The graphics with the ps3 and 360 is the same.

Overall i think its a good system but its not really better than the PS3 to my opinion.

But if you want some reviews read here:
http://www.hardcoreware.net/playstation-3-vs-xbox-360-one-year-later/
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6125087/index.html?type=tech

Comparison of graphics:
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6162742/index.html?tag=topslot;title;5&om_act=convert&click=topslot

Keep in mind that the PS3 has one main cell processor and seven other cells to help display the complexly of the effects in the video games without crashing the system.

GRAPHICS
This is a sticky subject for a lot of fanboys. A very common argument in most flame wars is that the Playstation 3 simply “has better graphics”. I’m not sure where that argument came from; Sony obviously did a good job of marketing
the system. However, the argument is entirely false. The Xenos GPU on the XBOX 360 is superior the RSX on the PS3. This is one thing that didn’t change in the past year.

Xenos simply has more power - higher fillrate, higher pixel processing power, higher vertex processing power, and better memory architecture. If you look at multiplatform games and contrast the graphics on the two consoles, XBOX 360 almost always leads. Whether they use a higher resolution or higher quality antialiasing, games often look better and/or play smoother on the 360. We looked at a handful of multiplatform games a while back, and this was always the case.

Again, we have to consider that Cell has the potential to help with graphics on the Playstation 3. As developers become more familiar with the platform, they are going to come up with new tricks to help games run smoother, and allow them to look better. However, one year after its introduction we aren’t seeing huge leaps (or even baby steps) towards this, except on a couple exclusive titles.

Game Selection

This category has two things to consider; exclusive titles for each console, and which console is better to play multiplatform games on. I think we covered the latter issue with the graphics category; given the choice between playing a multiplatform game on either console, the XBOX 360 is almost always better. At the very least, games will look the same on both consoles. At the worst, games on the PS3 will run at half the framerate of the 360, and at lower resolutions with less filtering and antialiasing. Also, multiplatform games are often delayed by weeks or even months on the PS3 (a testament to the difficulty of working with the system). Case in point, The Orange Box. The 2nd best selling XBOX 360 game after Halo 3 in October, and it is nowhere to be seen on the Playstation 3. And by early accounts, it is quite choppy on the Playstation 3.

So what about exclusive titles? After all, graphics and performance notwithstanding, this has to be the most important decision to make for most gamers choosing between the two consoles. It has been a full year, and.. well… things aren’t looking too good for the Playstation 3. As ScrewAttack noted in their Top 10 Exclusives for PS3, there aren’t even enough decent games to make a Top 10 list with!

At the Playstation 3’s launch, the XBOX 360 had a 1 year head-start, and had such titles as Gears of War, PGR3, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, F.E.A.R., Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Dead Rising, Burnout Revenge, Fight Night 3, and Rainbow Six: Vegas, all of which which were either titles exclusive to the 360, or weren’t made available on the PS3 until some time in 2007.

Now we can look at nearly an entire year of exclusive releases for each console, and compare them on an even playing field. I took all the games that were released after November 20, 2006, and found their overall scores on GameRankings. Scores over 80% were highlighted in green, as ‘very good games’ (contrary to some, I think a score of 80% is pretty good). Also, contenders for Overall Game of the Year were highlighted as some of the BEST games for ANY console. In other words, people will want to buy the console just to play these games.

As you can see, there were a lot more GOOD games for the 360 in the past year. While the PS3 had some games that squeaked into the 80% bracket, and one or two really good games like Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank, overall it has been a mediocre year for Playstation 3. Many were looking forward to titles like Heavenly Sword and Lair to make a statement, but those games pretty much fell flat on their faces (especially Lair, a total failure).

XBOX 360 on the other hand saw some excellent titles, including some that may be considered among the best games for any console, such as Halo 3, BioShock, and Mass Effect (of course, we all know that none of these are likely going to topple Mario Galaxy for this award, but oh well).

So for game selection, XBOX 360 not only offers a better experience with multiplatform games, but their exclusive titles are more often better than those on PS3, and in some cases extremely good.

There is not really any graphical difference although it is proven most multiplatform title's performance is better on 360.
Since PS3 has such a complicated hardware,i is harder to devolve properly for exapmle

Heavenly Sword

perfect example of a 720p PS3 game with next-gen graphics *and* 4x
anti-aliasing that CAN'T GET IT UP TO 60 FRAMES PER SECOND, because, as
informed people know, RSX, framebuffer bandwidth and everything
connected to the graphics system, CANNOT KEEP UP.

a fast-paced game such as Heavenly Sword should be 60fps. For cripes
sake, God of War on PS2 is 60fps at least for the most part.

I waited a while to get my PS2, I will probably do the same with PS3
currently 360 has more exclusive titles. I wouldn't get the PS3 until it gets like some really good exclusives, then Ill buy it.

They both have good games, and are both worth a buy, but it really sucks having to chose one.

alot of good games are multiplatform also.

I prefer the 360 because I find it's exclusive titles more appealing than the PS3s.
I was really wanting the PS3 until Devil May Cry 4 came out on 360,ps3 lost my interest.

b4 someone calls me biased,I have played a PS3, I just didn't find it as fun as my 360

 ^^(PM)^

Overall, The Driving force behind your decision of what console you choose comes from the exclusives, I chose a 360 because of Dead Rising, Gears of Wars, Fable and some others, The PS3 exclusives titles I am interested are yet to be released or just got released. Both Consoles are equally good. :)

Nick I read the impartial review and what I got out of it was that the xbox 360 has got the advantages now, other than multimedia, but that the ps3 has an excellent upside. Also if I want backward compatibility I have to shell out 500 bucks for the ps3...egad! I got the ps2 and not having backward compatibility would suck. The games for both systems look sick although there are more out there for 360 now. Thanks for the review Nick but it may have swayed me the other way. Reliability does scare me with the 360 though. Like cyclysm put it they both have their pluses and minuses. I'll just play it by ear but price always seems to be the deciding point ~X(.

Thanks DG!

One reason WHY multiplats are better for the 360, is that it is made for the 360 and ported to the PS3. Of course the PS3 ports are gonna be not as good graphically or in performance. I read some reports that graphically DMC4 was alittle better graphically than the 360 version. DMC4 was made for the PS3 and ported to the 360. Most sites do say they are graphically the same. Would Ratchet and Clank Future:TOD and Uncharted run exactly the same or better on the 360 if ported? Both games played well on the PS3 and look great.

360 does have more better games at the moment, but this year should be the year the PS3 should get some great exclusives like MGS4,Grand Turismo 5, etc.

Go by what you see on both systems and follow your gut on this purchase yo. Both have their own strengths and weaknessess, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to havin fun with the system. I always love Sega since I was a kid, but I had nintendo systems too cuz there was stuff I just wasn't gonna see on the genesis or the saturn, or the ps one/2,etc.

But getting back on topic, if you wanted a reasonably priced system with fun games and a thriving online community, get the xbox360. The word exclusive doesn't hold no weight anymore (DMC 4, RE5, GTA 4, etc), so no fanboys can give theirselves too much a pat on their backs. To get a sequal that is just the same game with a new coat of paint is nothing to get big on.....

The PS3 may not have anything worth now, but down the road there are some gems on the horizon. My only beef is that they force many people whose not really caking like that to get the more beefier system so that they may enjoy the ps1/2 without still having to hook those up. And I got so many many systems, I'm an @$$hair away from having an electrical fire as it is LOL!! The online part is not as cool as Live, But home when they get that up and running is gone be nice. If you can weather the alright stuff that's out now to get the cool stuff later, by all means get the ps3. I'm telling as a gamer, as joe average who goes to the store and give a hard look at stuff cuz I want to have fun and get my money's worth at the same time. I'm not quoting from a magazine cuz they're opinions is just that, OPINIONS. Follow your gut.

Yeah as steve said follow your gut.

Remember the PS3 was developed to be stable also that it has a blu-ray player making it much more worth it.

this was taken from another forum but i totally agree with this. reason is becuase i had a 360 and a PS3 at the same times and then 3 weeks later i decided to get rid of my 360 becuase is was a waste of money. in my opinion it's just a redone xbox.

Here are some reasons why i like PS3 better than the 360.

1. PS3= Blue Ray enough said comes included with the system

360= NOrmal dvd and if you want hd dvd a format that will be out of style in a year or so plus you must cough up $100 bucks for it

2. PS3= more third party games and exclusives like
KILLZONESERIES
Grand Turismo SERIES
SOCOM SERIES
GOD OF WAR SERIES
FINAL FANTASY SERIES
WARHAWK
METAL GEAR SOLID SERIES
TEKKEN SERIES
Resistance SERIES
Ratchet and Clank SERIES
TWISTED METAL SERIES
SHADOW OF COLOSSUS SERIES
ZONE OF ENDERS SERIES
KINGDOME HEARTS SERIES
GENJI SERIES
motorstorm SERIES
Unreal Tournament
Hot Shots Golf SERIES
LAIR
UNCHARTED
HEAVENLY SWORD
LITTLE BIG PLANET
Haze
Folklore
Etc....

360= Halo.............

3. PS3= Cell processor 3 times faster than microsoft top processor

360= dosent come with it's top processor, it a basic processor just lame

4. Ps3= has custom hardware designed especially for this system

360= normal hardware found in the regular xbox

5. PS3= super quiet can even tell it's on

360= sounds like a lawnmower

6. PS3= comes with built in wireless on all of it's systems

360= only comes included on there top system you must buy a wireless card for about $100 bucks to play wireless on there basic systems

7. PS3= there lowest system comes with 20GB of memory

360= 256MB, my ipod has more memory. what a f**k*** joke

8. PS3= WiFi and HDMI comes on all systems

360= not included on all . but for another $100 bucks you could probably get it.

9. PS3= "free online" yes 360 users it is free believe it or not.

360= Xbox live for a few dollars a month. now why pay for online when it's free even at your local Mcdonald's now a days.

10. Ps3= nice black sleek design

360= white dry rough skin

11. PS3= nice touch sensor on/off and eject button

360= big butt old push button like the ones that were on the original Playstation

12. PS3= updated with new software weekly

360= updated once or twice a year.

i think that is enough said. dont you guys.
