removing the background color using photoshop

okay i got the darn photoshop.... and i need to know how to remove the background color of the sprite so that now i can continou making OmegaX

i forgot the steps removing the background color and im doing this very quick because....
the 30days trial....

edit: i know how to remove the background color just the magic wand then click the b.color then press delete... then whats next.... i tried to put it in FF but it became black... i tried the pallete edits but nothing happened it became black again.... is there any tutorial there??

what i mean is removing the purple color so that if i put it in FF the color will be gone... when using " activate transparency "

well i've watch in youtube how to kill the traparency... and it only use the magic wand the click the color you want... then press delete....

well when i do that.... the tranparency became white because you've said that i should use 256... and using that i couldnt delete the white because its 256 not.... 24bit...

whys that?
