Parallax help

I was hoping somebody could help me out by giving me an example of a very lightly parallaxed floor. I'm trying different values right now but every time I try something, the floor winds up either completely disappearing or moving out of sight when I jump too high. I don't really understand the the explanation in the docs since it only gives a short one. :(
