Hello everyone,
my name is Swanky and I've been on and off MUGEN for the better part of the past fifteen years. Hard to believe it's been that long, really. Have been collecting, loosing and reassembling my mugen files many times since, even released a (now lost) stage back in the day. Yeah, not much of a creator, sorry. However, the community has been releasing some incredible work ever since, from Mystik Blaze, Reu to Loganir and beyond. Since I have been off MUGEN since the release of Poison Ivy and for most of the time before that, I'm a bit lost as to which are considered good characters, loosely based around the MVC Gamestyle. Most of what I've been using is back from the early 2000's so getting back on track is appreciated. I am specifically looking for quality over quantity, ideally complete with AI. Alas, I am still looking for a competent Ironman with AI, Captain America, Chun Li and a good Thanos maybe.
Which characters do you find yourselves coming back to regularly, which ones have you been using ever since and which ones are considered modern classics in your eyes? Links are appreciated, but some may be lost in time. Still, let me/us know.
Thank you and shoutouts to the community for being awesome for such a long time!
What I have been consistently using in my roster for the last decade or so (in no particular order):
Abyss, Onslaught & Sentinel by Xslaught
Astonishing Cyclops, Wonder Woman, Thor, Sandman & Electro by Loganir
Evil Ryu & Charlie by Mystik Blaze
Jill Valentine, Venom (with selfmade/copied AI) & Rogue by BigEliKing
Strider Hiryu, Captain Commando & Iceman by Splode
M.Bison by Supermystery
BlackCat by O'Ilusionista
Lilith by Yamori X - fairly young character, still much recommended
Broly by Gknux - haven't checked out his other works yet
Dr.Doom, Gambit, Cammy, Hulk (with edited grappling ranges) and Guile (also edited for personal usage) by Kamekaze - seriously, really good creator with long time support and a huge portfolio of characters
Wolverine by Sander71113 - lots of good Wolvies out there, been alternating between this and Vyns version
Psylocke & Storm by Whitemagic (with AI Patches)
Dormammu, Sakura & Baby Bonnie Hood (Bulleta) by Beximus, Gladiacloud & Friends (with AI Patches) - also partly fairly young releases with good quality
Magneto & BlackHeart (couldn't fix the AI attacking before roundstart though) by Sunboy (with edits and fixes for personal use)
Jubilee Versus Style debuts by Beximus & Friends (with AI Patch)
Gouki by Vyn
Jin & Morrigan by Hsieh
Lobo by Buyog - him getting smashed into walls behaves funny sometimes; Buyog has been hit & miss for me unfortunatly, along with most of scruffydragon
Spiderman by SethZankuten
Cable by Acey & Kong
Some Sources:
Almost there, but not quite (for me at least):
Batman by Alucard (great spritework, but a lot of his moves feel iffy / wonky, Hypers take away from the action)
Pretty much everything by Wucash (again, great spritework but some of the combo strings feel off, inconsistent - shame as there are some really great characters with Darkseid and Etrigan)
Stuff by Scruffydragon (Combotiming feels a lot different or inconsistent to me. Might just me being bad though. Okay and making a good Superman is actually difficult).
AvX characters by various (a lot of them are actually good - I couldn't fix the issue of being hit on ground gets a character stuck in the animation and being able to infinitely crouch footsied to death though. Otherwise there would be a few of them on the list above.)
Zvitor characters (again, great spritework. His works don't feel as fluid as base MVC stuff but are rocksolid. Also had gameplay issues with his Mystique and Juggernaut (like close opponents not getting hit) so haven't looked into other characters of his).
Megaman by DG (no AI)
So, which are your favorites?
