Tekken style guard

The default guarding on mugen locks the opponent into a guard state from quite a distance away making it impossible for the opponent to back away from an assault since they keep getting locked into the guard state on retreat. In tekken the guarding is initiated on impact or within point blank range.  By changing the guard distance in the hitdef for the attacks I can get the desired effect. Only the cpu AI seems to become retarded once guard distance is altered in the hitdef, rarely blocking attacks. Attacks even land on a standing dummy with automatic guarding on in practice mode..... Is there a way around this? I want the guard state to happen only when an attack is point blank so the player can play a more evasive game but without rendering the cpu player retarded.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe its an error with your guarda code. Post it here so se can take a look.

The thing there is the AI is probably cycling within state 120 state 0, and will take damage. You could allow the drop out to occur if you're in state 130 and not inguarddist so it would always go to the guarding portion. Drop out would just be if you stopped holding back.

What's your AI code doing? I assume it is using inguarddist to activate as well. I had to use state 130 for AI guarding once because the startup broke stuff.
