Need Some Advice For An Odd Situation

What's up guys? I know this is a weird to place to ask a weird question like this, but I'm at a loss on what to do. Anyways, I just got off work about an hour ago, and heard a loud noise from my neighbors apartment when I was taking a shower, then a shattering sound in my apartment. Then my neighbor knocked on my door freaking out, and apparently what the sound was, was that his dumb a$$ brother decided to clean his friends AK47, and didn't check to make sure it wasn't loaded with hollow points first. It went off in his hands, then through my wall into my couch, and then shattered (which was the shattering sound I heard), and broke off into shrapnel into my other walls, TV, and flooring. If I decided to relax on my couch instead of taking a shower, I'd be dead or in some serious pain. An AK bullet is no joke, especially hollow points. It was a total accident though, and I honestly feel bad for the guy for being such a pathetic idiot, and for being sincerely sorry, but what the heck should I do? I'm not gonna lie, it would be nice to have a little pay day, but I wouldn't feel right about it. I don't want him to go to jail either, but should I call the cops anyways? I feel kind of obligated.

Yeah, I was thinking it about it, and I'm gonna offer that he gives me his AK, and $500-800, and I won't make a big deal about it, or get him evicted. I don't know him at all other than last week, the idiot tried hitting on my roommates girlfriend by barking at her like a dog to try and get her attention when she was walking to her car. I wanted to shoot him just for being such a nerd, but it'd take more than that to make me actually do it. Other than that though, he's just some guy that shot a gun through my wall and furniture. If he doesn't go for my offer though, he's getting  KO'd.

Agreed. He could record you trying to solicit and blackmail him and it would all backfire on you. I would heed Acey's advice and call the cops.. but.. if this goon has an AK-47 you really need to be careful if you decide to call the cops because no telling what he might do about that.

Agreed. God forbid he likes getting drunk or is just one vengeful, hateful sonva-B, you're gonna want to get him OUT. Besides, like you said, if you had wanted to chill on your couch, you'd be dead or nearly there. Last thing anyone would want would be you on 1000 Ways to Die.

Acey's right, you need to call the authorities and get all of this documented in case it get's ugly.  Also, I don't care if it WAS an accident, it was an easily avoided one.  You said it yourself, that all his brother had to do was check it first to see if it was loaded or not. Also, if it's his place, he's responsible for whatever people bring into it and he should know what exactly that is. It's not like you can just sneak that in without people knowing. I don't care how nice a person is or how sorry they are, you don't get to absolve yourself of responsibility because of ignorance and carelessness.  You could have been killed, someone else could have been killed, it could have gone bad in LOTS of different ways. When it comes to the law, enforcing it may not your obligation, but obstructing it and not being truthful isn't really an option you want to pursue either.  How do you know someone else won't call either? Or is that what you're counting on?  You don't want to be the guy who turns him in?  It doesn't make you a bad guy.  You're a victim of his foolishness and it would just be a case of you standing up for yourself.  Whether he should be punished or not is not really your call.  Your only obligation is reporting the truth.

Call the cops, get a police report, and then take them to small clams court for the damages. Take photo's of EVERYTHING!!! Get the model number and info for the tv so you can get the price of a replacement. Take Photos of all the damage. Call the cops. Itemize your damages

OOOOOOOkay..first thing comes to my mind is...what they doing with an AK in the apartment?  and are they legally able to have it and are registered cto carry that kind of firearm.
you dont know this guy or the guys that well so you dont know what kind of issues are gonna jump off if you call the cops. BUT...if you gonna get the police involved , def do....and all the way involved.

 That shot could have been a fatal shot to someone in your spot just visiting, so for sure take heed to that and seriously in mind cause you want to protect your people and your valuables. As said as well get reports of your damages and values for them. they are your possessions that got hit that cost you MONEY. they have to be replaced.   If your bold enough , go tell those dudes what happened and document it that you notified them of the incident and damages they caused to your belongings. some people settle things out of court which is fine but with all the craziness going on with people you just have to make sure any choice you make has to be a solid one you are willing to stick by all the way to the end.
 More than likely they may even get booted out of the apartment  and or even jail time.
