TBH the technology has been around for a long time. They just incorporated 2 tech's to make a "new" technology. Gesture stuff has been worked on by M$ for quite sometime in a university and visual stuff has also been around for awhile. They just smash the 2 together to make something "new".

Still quite fascinating tho.

It's kinda like 64 bit Processors. They have been in business servers since the early 90s but they have since taken off and everyone is starting to move into entirely 64bit. Usually the tech has been out for a heck of a long time but software developers don't like to switch over to a new tech because they have to learn the new architecture or tech.

Same thing will happen with 128 bit which will be introduced with windows 8 and 32 bit will be gone for good. Besides linux. It will take a good 5-10 years before it becomes a completely viable software  and hardware route.

EDIT: Technology only fully takes off if the software developers support it. So while new technology like hand gestures is really nice. if there aren't a lot of software developers to code it, it will never get past prototype stages.

But Microsoft is trying to do it with new computers and I guess these guys are doing it with all surfaces. So we may have one day where every appliance in our homes can be activated by a simple hand gesture.

Actually they plan on releasing source code this month to be able to program your own stuff, and I am betting if it takes off software devs will take it quicker than an iPod app.

Well if it is relatively easy to program for it I may give it a try. I'm learning Visual Basic right now. Then I'm gonna move on to C++

EDIT: But it really depends on how easy it is to code for plus the price point of it. The iphone is a really easy to code platform. That is why so many developers are coding on it now. I doubt they can make it Iphone easy.

EDIT2: Wow after actually starting to watch the video's in depth instead of skimming through them. He has actually take old technologies and completely re designed and enhanced them. The only problem I see is people seeing you do this. I bet you will get called a lot of names by going around and public and making gestures. It could be quite embarrassing for some people.

Plus I don't know if it is just me, but I actually like sitting down and interacting with my computer using a mouse and keyboard. Just like I love to sit down and interact with a 360 or PS3. I don't like virtual interfaces that are not physical or tangible. My way of chilling out to relieve stress is to play games on the couch or on my computer. Not have to stand up and do gestures or movements like with the Wii. It just does not seem like a relaxing type of experience. That's why I am not a wii fan at all. My definition of gaming is to sit back grab a beer or soda and play games using a controller or mouse and keyboard. Or say watch video's on the computer. Not interact with gestures or movements.

EDIT3: But I can see this being amazing in 2-3 years. We could end up in a world like all those Sci-Fi flicks and books. Where everything is automated or so simple to do. Mail comes through chutes, you can travel 100 miles in a matter of minutes without an airplane. If this is possible think of the possibilities in the future? We could see a day like futurama or say star trek and stuff like that.
