How can you control which colors stay on characters?
« on: September 10, 2009, 11:17:14 PM »
A question for the MUGEN community - and my appologies if this question has already been rasied somewhere - but is it possible to control the amount of color variations for the characters?

You see, like many people here, I am a huge comic book fan!  Being able to play with such a grand range of characters, all based from different companies is a dream come true!   But when I enter ARCADE mode in mugen and am pitted against a Wolverine with purple boots and red-claws - well, it just destroys the fantasy a little.  I understand the need for the color schemes, especially with the ability to have 4-way matches, but...

...Is there an option or setting in the Mugen software that narrows the color selection to the proper colors for the characters?

What steps would be nessessary to solve this problem?  All I want to do is square off against a CPU Green Lantern that's actually GREEN!!!

Yep, you should open your mugen.cfg file and find this section:

[Arcade]
;Set to 0 for computer to choose color 1 if possible.
;Set to 1 for computer to randomly choose a color.
AI.RandomColor =1

You must change that 1, for a 0

So:
[Arcade]
;Set to 0 for computer to choose color 1 if possible.
;Set to 1 for computer to randomly choose a color.
AI.RandomColor =0

Now you have to chek if your chars have the pal 1 as the first, if not, mugen will crash with a 320 error or something...

Awsome!

Hey, I'll fiddle around with that and see if I'm smart enough to make it work!  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, VargVikernes.  Will write another message with the results!

OK!

Works great!  Just like you said it would, the program crashes when it loads up a char without pal 1 as the first.  But how do I check that with each char?  Using Fighter Factory?  And, supposing that the first pal is not the color scheme I want, is it difficult to modify this for each character?  Some characters like Deadpool come up in wild colors.

Again, if anyone can help me, that'd be way awesome!

Just open the char's def file with notepad and see if the line is missing or not.

The best way is to open the character DEF file in his folder. Youll see a palette order

Redson.act
silverage.act
Kal-L.act
KC.act

ect

Just take out the ones you dont want.

OK!

So, taking everyone's advice and playing around, I think I figured it out.  I have to do the following:

1) Download and install "Fighter Factory" to my computer.
2) Use "Fighter Factory" and open a selected char from the "char" files.  eg) Deadpool
3) After opening the character, select "Palette" from the menu at the top of the screen and then select "Open".  Choose whatever .act files are there.
4) Now, on the right hand side of the screen will be a smaller menu bar that shows all palettes that have been opened (including those from other characters, so it is important to keep track of them and close the ones that don't apply to the character you wish to modify.  For example, if you want are currently modifying palettes of GREEN LANTERN but you were previously modifying palettes of DEADPOOL and didn't close the palettes, the DEADPOOL palettes will appear on the list with the GREEN LANTERN palettes simultaniously).
5) Click on "Auto apply palette" on the right-hand side menu so you can quickly view the different color schemes.

TO DELETE COLOR SCHEMES YOU DON'T WANT:
1) Make note of the file names of the color schemes you don't like from viewing them in Fighter Factory.
2) Then OPEN the char in windows and delete the ".act" files you don't want.
3) Open the ".def" file of the character and delete the lines of programing that indicate those same files.  Be sure to do this because if the ".def" file starts looking for ".act" files that don't exist, Mugen will crash when you attempt to load the "incomplete" character.

Gentlemen (and/or Ladies), thank you so much for your help.  This will dramatically increase my enjoyment of Mugen from now on!!!  NO MORE WOLVERINE WITH PURPLEBOOTS AND RED CLAWS!!!

Again, thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!!!!
