Wolvenom - Transparency - Palette problem?
« on: August 11, 2007, 11:20:00 PM »
hey!

I have some problems...
I'm working with Adobe Photoshop CS 2...

My Wolvenom W.I.P:

Photoshop progress:

Indexed mode -> Palette -> Custom -> Color 0 = Pink (the bg from the char) -> Transparency click -> Save as *.PCX

Fighter Factory progress:

Open Fighter Factory -> Palette edit -> Save the palette from Wolvenom -> Open the palette -> (Using KFM Char as template) -> Changing the Sprites -> Clicking transparency on the left = it works? -> Test run -> screenshot -> char with the pink colored background? and the same by the potrait! WHY?

Where is the problem in my progress?

Thanks in advice!

Bye

In the custom palette, you should:
1.Click select the black square like you did
2.Open it up by double-clicking it
3.Click on the background in the pic
4.Click Ok
5.Click on the background of the pic
6.Open it (double-click)
7.On the, I think, RGB boxes on the bottom-left, change the three numbers all to zero.
8. Save the palette.
9. Press Ctrl and Z
10. Load the palette onto the image
11. Save it

OR

1. Open the palette you used on the sprite sheet and
2. Save the image with that palette

I feel like I didn't understand your problem...
Which I truly did not.
Atleast I tried.

The BG color needs to be the first color on the pallette, when you save it through Adobe Photoshop.

Ok. I am going to assume you already have a master palette because if you are just adding sprites while making the background color transparent, you will have way more issues than just no transparent background. I made these pics as simple to understand as possible.

This emphasizes that you should already have a master palette.

Click the Palettes icon up top. The sprite currently in view will be on the left panel with it's current palette which is, of course, the master palette.

On the right side, click on the 'find image' button. Open the image you want to add. When selected, you should see the current palette of the image. It does not match the current master palette. Even if you had the correct BG color in the bottom right corner of the screen, the colors, when added, would not display right. You HAVE to apply the master palette to your new image for it to display correctly.

On the far left side of the window, click on ADD, find and add the sprite you are trying to add to your SFF file. #2 is self explanatory. Then click open.

Pretty simple. Tutorials like this are not hard to make, but they are TIME CONSUMING. I wish I had time for you guys to make these, but they take too much of my creating, moderating and free time... this is why learning the ropes yourself is sometimes the best teacher. ;)

I hope this helped you or anyone else out Berkay.

Thanks Excursion for this great tutorial, this is a great advice for my future work with the whole images.
I found my problem. In the Photoshop progress you see on the up there is the pink color in the box. The last box (bottom right) i must select pink (because COLOR=0)... but than i got the pink color 2x. With the eyedropper tool you can check transparency to a color... my fault was that i'm checked the pink in the bottom. The pink in the upper box must be checked!
