Mugen Title screen
« on: June 24, 2008, 01:50:39 PM »
Hi everyone, I'm new here and haven't been able to find a topic on this so I thought I'd ask. I've been trying to edit the title screen for Mugen (making my own). How would I go about doing that?

editing the default one and making my own :-??

All the Mugen system files are found in the data folder.

step 1) download Fighter Facotry (link found on www.infinitymugenteam.com under "links")

you can use this software to open system.sff and look at the graphics, edits, add and removed graphics.

step 2) open system.def and become familiar with this. You can edit the title screen and more by placing the position of the graphics founs in the system.sff

yep, I got fighter factory, and I opened the system.def in FF. I've got my tile image (a 320x240 .pcx file) Now what? Sorry if I sound like  a noob, I just wanted to try and make my own title screen.

You can edit the image to your liking with gimp and in Fighter Factory to extract the pcx images go to sprites --> extract sprite as pcx.

it takes some getting used to.

Let me say what everyone else said, only differently.

1) Open the SFF file in fighter factory

2) Find the graphic you want to switch and "save as pcx" onto your computer

3) edit the graphic. Make sure it remains within 256 colors when you're done (but probably using a different 256 color than the original since you proably want to change the graphic significantly)

4) in Figher Factory again "change" the old sprite with the new one and save the SFF file.

The error your getting mean that you're wither not using pcx files like you should or your not using files that are 256 colors.

ahh, ok. I wasn't sure about the 256 color thing. I was using Fireworks 8 to make a completely new image and import into FF. I'll try using GIMP and edit the one in the .SFF file. I'll give it another try, as I'd really love to be able to do it for future projects  ;D

edit: Does the title screen have to be a certain size?

320x240 just for a low-res mugen or if you have hi-res mugen its 640x480.
