Mexico defeats the french in the "battle of puebla"...

16th of September:

Mexico defeats spain to get their independece...(mexico's independance day)

So hopefully this clears out the little mishap..

I was trying to find the real vid of Homer, but couldn't find it. After he sings the song it cuts to commercial I think.

strangely, el 5 de mayo practicamente casi no lo celebramos en México. es una costumbre arraigada principalmente en los mexicanos que habitan Estados Unidos..

acá la fiesta grande se arma el 16 de Septiembre.
pero para todos mis paisas que sí lo celebran:

That's an analogy with us Argentineans, we defeated some English invaders in 1806 and 1807 before kicking out our Spanish viceroy in 1810 and establishing our first local government, and declaring independence in 1816.

We don't celebrate our "Invasiones Inglesas" either.

Anyways, I said it before and I'll say it again:
