I'm getting a new laptop and have a question.
« on: April 21, 2008, 02:46:46 PM »
Alright. Remember I was asking whether I should get a laptop or a PS3?

Well, since nearly everyone said I should get a laptop and talked me out of PS2/PS3 I told my dad to get me one (my money of course).

Someone here (I think it was homeboy KPT25 ) told me I could emulate PS2 games so that made up my mind. Here's my future specs:

Dell Inspiron 1525

Procesador Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5550 1.83GHz/667Mhz FSB/2MB cache (I think it should have been 2.0 Ghz but my dad would start complaining about being unnecesary
2GB RAM Shared Dual Channel DDR2 (I know, I should have got 3GB but my dad would start complaining about being unnecesary).
Graphics card Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
O.S.: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition

Good thing is I KNOW NFS Carbon, NFS ProStreet, Pro Evolution Soccer 6, FIFA 08 and Devil May Cry 3 will run O.K. with this game.

Will this be enough to emulate PS2?

I think the best way to know it is...Testing the emulator! :D
I`ve heard good things from the Pcsx2 emu...i believe it should work fine...or you can test at least with Dreamcast(NullDC or Chankast, pick your poison) and see how it runs:both consoles might be similar in hardware requirements,so if DC runs,PS2 might do as well :-??

yeah i know a lot about ps2 emulators let me check your specs again. well from the lloks of things i doesnt look like it will be enough to emulate ps2 games to their full potential but neverless you might....jus MIGHT be able to tweak the pcsx2 emulator to make it work with your laptop. cuz i know the laptop i have specs are only slightly better than yours and i had to do major tweaking to get the ps2 games to run flawlessly. like your friend above me just said test the emulator out. but if you do want it to run like you want to it would be best to get those things that your dad sees as unnecessary.

Dad won't let me I guess. Besides I think he ordered it already. ???

Anyways, I had CVS2 in Null DC in this computer and it worked pretty well.

Your good for running the ps2 emulator (With a few minor defaults set to low) but with those spec's don't expect high-end games to run smooth and without hiccups and lag.

Theres no such thing as proc and ram being to high or unnecessary, unless you don't mind having a mid-grade gaming system. But don't worry, like i said your system will get you places.

I know, I realize I said it wrong: Papa says it's a money waste.

Geez, I guess this never ends does it? :(

(I hope there will be a day in the future when I'll be free to be a hardcore gamer...)

Edit: don't expect high-end games to run smooth and without hiccups and lag.

These are the games I have a special interest in emulating.

DBZ Budokai
DBZ Budokai 2
DBZ Budokai 3
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Gran Turismo 3
Gran Turismo 4
K.O.F. XI
K.O.F. Neowave
K.O.F. Maximum Impact
WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW 2008

Can those be considered "high-end"?

These can considered high-end for your rig. Because your rig wont achieve the maximum 30++ FPS
WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW 2008
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Gran Turismo 3
Gran Turismo 4

Games will have noticeable lag and also appear jaggy, buggy & have considerable frame rate losses.
DBZ Budokai
DBZ Budokai 2
DBZ Budokai 3
Gran Turismo 4
WWE Smackdown! vs. RAW 2008
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2
DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3

Games will work almost perfect.
K.O.F. XI
K.O.F. Neowave
K.O.F. Maximum Impact

(2 Side note's:the emulator isn't far enough in development to perfectly run all ps2 games perfectly, so at this point nothing is fully playable withought glitches and bugs. ALSO Note: If you got an error message saying error opening gs plugin or something like that, most likely you’re trying to use ZeroGS Plugin and your vga card is not a Pixel Shader 2.0 Capable Card (ZeroGS require Pixel Shader 2.0 ++ Capable Card) .. and the only solution is using GSDX Plugin as the graphic plugin or get a new graphic card)
