Help with Windows XP FAT32 error
« on: March 31, 2008, 05:38:00 PM »
I get this blue screen message when I turn my computer on.......

Checking file system on D:
The type of the file system is FAT32

One of your disk needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check
but it is strongly recommended that you continue.

Windows will now check the disk volume serial number is 3EA4-5033
Windows is verifying files and folders
0 percent complete.

It's doing that and the number isn't moving, it seems that everything is frozen after
that point. I have to shut my pC off and turn it back on to get back to this message
and you can press any key to skip it, so I do that, then I tried a system restore
and still no good, and then I tried going to the properties of the D drive and using
the tools to scan the disk for bad sectors but it tells me something about it needs
to be restarted before it can do that then it gets back to that blue screen when
my PC starts back up.

It did this a few times before a long time ago, but it actually finished, it didn't
freeze at 0 percent. Can anyone help?

Is there anything attached to the computer like a thumb drive or external hard drive? If so you should unplug it, than plug it back in when your logged in......

You know, I had a computer which had a similar problem... and it was the motherboard had burnt after a Geforce MX videocard was attached to it a few months earlier. My family decided to get a new one.

Don't follow this blindly. Could be some other reason.

I figured it out, all it's doing is running scandisk, I had to just let it sit and run. It looks like it's frozen, but it really wasn't. I let it sit overnight and it finished. Took like 30 minutes to get to like 7%
