Stage Problem :(
« on: November 29, 2007, 12:14:54 PM »
Hi guys,

Well, i've had MUGEN for some time now and thought it was about time i started creating stages so i did so (first stage here- http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/7692/devilslairhi3.png (under construction)).

Ok, I created the stage and I saved it as a BMP, I then opened it with FF and put the little cross thing where I want the guys to stand, after this, i saved it as a .SFF file to my stages folder, I then borrowed the .DEF file from another stage I downloaded to test it out to make sure it worked, so I renamed it to my stages name "daredevils_lair" and renamed the two names inside also. Ok, the DEF and SFF files are now in the rightful folders. Finally I go to the select notepad file and type in the name of my stage where it's supose to be "stages/daredevils_lair.def" and opened up MUGEN to try out my new stage. I choose my Chars and before the game starts an error message comes up "http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/9584/32971912zu8.png"

Help would be much appriciated.
RKO

you must of deleted the sprite but the coding is still there

A guy told me one time, "Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner."

As the error message says, theres no sprite for the floor.
Most stages are lyerd, with multiple images for differnt parts, there are a few tutorals out here for stage making and even a couple of templates.
Just go to the tutorals section and check them out.

Right i've downloaded the template and opened it with FF and see that it has 6 layers, 6 different sprite layers all broken up, is that what i have to do?

So where i was just pasting the whole BMP picture into FF, i should break the sprites up? if so then im stuck because i merged all the layers when i saved it on photoshop :(

Yeah basicly..
I also suggest always keeping a working file of your stuff in whatever program your using, so that if you do make a mistake on the finished version you have something to go back too.

You wont really need 6 layers though for that stage, mabie 3 or 4...
Like if you cut out the window and have the cityscape as one background
the wall infront of that, and then the floor.
Shouldnt be that hard to clean up.
Also make sure you always save the file's in 256 colors.
There are also some tutorals on here for making sure you select the right color for transparency.
I dont use photoshop so im not sure.
Good Luck

Hey, yeah thanks alot for the tips mate. Yeah I read in the tutorial about saving them as 256 colours but when i did this on Paint, the picture screwed right up and the details went all crappy, so what I did was save it on Photoshop as a BMP file and the picture quality stayed decent..
