Looking for a good book to read. Suggestions?
« on: July 29, 2015, 10:22:05 AM »
I enjoy reading almost anything. Mostly read books that deal with zombies, time travel, and what ifs?. Hoping you guys can give me a hand finding my next book to read. Any suggestion will be considered. Please and thank you

Well, I'm a big fantasy book type myself, and if you have any desire to dive down that path, I suggest you read the Shannara series by Terry Brooks. The Magic Kingdom of Landover series is another awesome series I highly suggest to you by the same author, starting with the book "Magic Kingdom For Sale-Sold!". In a gist, it's about a guy from modern time Seattle (I think), that purchases an old book store, which is a portal of sorts that takes him to a place called the Kingdom of Landover. Writing that, it sounds like Narnia, but it totally is not at all like it whatsoever. It completely caught me off guard though, and is truly an amazing and completely original and creative story. Actually, yeah, read that before the Shannara. Shannara is AMAZING too though, and I am a harsh judge when it comes to fantasy, because it's all so cliche at this point in history, it's all been wrote before and follows a certain fantasy formula, just filling in characters and plot lines. When a story goes away from the formula, and keeps you guessing, and questioning yourself the whole way through, it's a winner imo. Just like Game of Thrones. Anyways, hope I was able to help out a little.

That seriously sounds awesome. I got the Amazon link opened in another tab and am ordering the first book right after this post. If I like it, I'm going to order the rest of them as well, just gotta give it a test run before getting the others. I like things that deal with demons and possession usually if it's done in a serious or at least cool way. I'm not a Satanist or anything, I just find topics like that interesting from a storytelling perspective. It's usually portrayed pretty cheesy, but I like series that are similar to things like Constantine. I seriously wish I could be him, or at least have his job. That reminds me, does anyone know of any book, comic, anime, or movie that is similar to Van Helsing. Van Helsing, the movie with Hugh Jackman, was a frickin joke, but if done by an author that actually gave a crap and took it seriously, it would've been great. So yeah, been on the search for something along those lines in any type of media. The Van Helsing short animated movie was like, extremely cool in my opinion.
