Losing Progress Frequently
« on: June 24, 2015, 10:09:14 PM »
I've been wanting to draw my own mugen character for a long time and finally decided to start, but I'm running into some serious issues with Fighter Factory and Mugen.

I'm using kfm700 as a 'template' for my character because I'm pretty terrible at coding, I'm more of an art person. I insert the pallette I used in photoshop for my sprites and then I insert the sprites (which are indexed) in place of the sprites of kfm (so I replace his standing sprites with the standing sprites of my character, sometimes adding to the group if my animation requires more frames or sprites.)

I set the animation sprites too. When I test this character in the quick test option 'run in Mugen' in Fighter factory 3 it works perfectly. When I save my sprites and animations and close Fighter Factory it looks like my progress gets messed up, the next time I load it or Mugen my character has reverted to the original sprites/palette/animation of kfm700. I've remade it all in several ways and I'm still totally dumbfounded. I've lost my progress 6 times this way : /

I'm really new to this so any help is GREATLY appreciated. I'm an artist and I'm definitely NOT a programmer so this is all a bit foreign to me.

I was using mugen 1.1 at first with fighter factory 3, then I tried mugen 1.0 hoping that would be the issue, but it didn't help. I tried loading a standard kfm from mugen 1.0 into my other fighter factory (FF classic) and it said stream read error.

The problem sounds like you haven't got a full character there.

Make a copy of KFM. Rename all the files in explorer as well as in the .def file.

Try it from that rather than a standalone sff file or anything. You always want a whole character. Although you can leave out the .snd.

I tried what you said and so far it's running smoother. I also cleared kfm's palettes and applied my palette to all of the sprites, that could have been part of the problem. I'll post again if I run into any more issues.

Thanks for the help! I'll post some animation progress on the forums soon.
