Frankenspriting with GIMP?

Ok I am a cheap bastard and dont have PS nor can I afford it so I use gimp how does one go about Frankenspriting with gimp?

I mean I see all these frankenspriting tuts with photoshop but none with GIMP.

Even without that, frankenspriting as it is known is simply taking bits off one sprite and merging them with another. You can do it with MSpaint.
