Dat Mai-Ling: The Cute and Agile Martial Artist!
« on: January 03, 2011, 04:06:18 PM »
Mai-Ling... Ikuzo!

Mai-Ling is next. My Hanzo and Fuuma are practically done, and I wanted to keep this a secret until Hanzo was released on New Years day but we won't be opening for another month it seems. So I deeply apologize that I cannot deliver just yet, but to make up for it, I've decided to show you guys what I've got planned next.

So I'm just gonna post some screen shots of Mai-Ling for now and show what I've done so far.

I'm currently working on her basics and got all of her chain combos done. A BIG thanks to Sabaki for his assistance and allowing me to learn from his Mai-Ling. I also did up a few effects for her, but I still got a ton of work to do and sprites to rip.

Custom Combo Implemented!

And the prototype Flame Kick.
(click to show/hide)

What's done:

- Basics, throws, and System Mechanics are already somewhat finished LOL.
- Organized palette sheet.

What's left:

- Everything else... and I mean ERRTHANG!

NOTE: Sorry for the topic remake. I spelled something wrong and it was bugging me XD.

Happy New Years everyone!

Another great wip comming :)

About the flame kick, I liked, but I don't like the ripple effect too much, its too strong.

Thanks bro! :w00t:

And which flame kick? the standing or crouching version? most likely the standing version. I was considering redoing that one anyway because I don't like the bottom part. It's real jagged, so I'm gonna look into that for sure.

Hew yee!

I love Red Earth. It's so underrated, that it's not even cool. But Mukuro and Mai-Ling were my favorites in the game. I got many surprises in store for Mai-Ling. All of which will be shown in due time. :P

Mai-Ling is going to be my hardest project, but the end results will be worth it. I can guarantee that.

the standing one.

Okay, yeah I thought so and I agree. I'm redoing them again and looking into some different filters. I tend to use a lot of the same tricks, which don't always look good with some effects.

I agree. But its underrated because Capcom haven't released it for any console.

But I know that you will end making a good stuff :)

Hello... long time no update huh? LOL I know it's been a minute but I lost motivation. But as usual... "Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in!". But the important thing is, I'm back now.
So anyways, I've been out of the game for several reasons, but I still have been doing little things here and there with Mai-Ling. So now I have quite a bit to catch yall up on.

Side note, I've been messing around with Adobe Photoshop these past few days since PSP has its limitations. So I ended up redoing some of the effects and some look 10x better than they used to be and I'll show some examples.

Parry
(click to show/hide)

Hard Kick
(click to show/hide)

Dive Kick (Koukaku-Shuu)

(click to show/hide)

Kujinn Ken
(click to show/hide)

Air Dash (Idaten)
(click to show/hide)

Enryuu Kyaku
(click to show/hide)

Now not to smash PSP, for I still get better results on there than Photoshop depending on the effect. But for flames, Photoshop has been grand. But yeah, this is most of what I've done so far.

What's done

- Basic Attacks
- System Mechanics
- Kujinn Ken and EX Kujinn Ken are partially finished
- Enryuu Kyaku is partially finished
- Idaten is completed
- Koukaku-Shuu is partially finished.

What's left

- All the d@mn Supers.
- Sprites still need to be ripped.
- 3 more Specials left.
- Then the EX specials.
- Portraits, system tweeking, and all that other junk.

Let's just say, I still have a crap load of things to do. So overall percentage. I'm gonna say about 30-35%. Work needs to be done, but I promise you, the results will be fantastic. Well worth the agony and struggle. When I'm off school in the next few weeks, I'll make a demonstration video.

Curious, is she going to be 6 button or no?  I'm suspecting her to be 4 button, the so-called 'elite' layout.

Anyhow, these effects are killer.  I would ask for a tutorial, but a good chance is that you'd link me to PotS's, and his tutorial just assumes that you know how to operate the program completely.  It wouldn't hurt to say "Resize image (File > Something > Resize)"...  *Iceman ThumbsDown!*

Errr, no. She's 6 buttons like Hanzo and Fuuma. I don't like 4 buttons for 2D fighters. Just not my thing.

And yes, I use most of POTS' method. Which really isn't that difficult to understand either. It's common sense really :P. But I've experimented with many different filters and I came up with my own combinations, so it kinda differentiates from his.

this is amazing:

Great work

Thank you kind sir. It was your feedback which made me step it up! ;D

Ah, good.  I like 6 buttoners better IMO.  :P

Really?  It just seems so vague to me as to how to do each of the actions he listed.  I use Gimp's less than stellar effect editing method, but only because KaintheSupreme's tutorial made the most sense to me.

Somewhat relevant, but when you edit effects, you use the ones which are already aligned, as in the rips which consist mostly of the pink background, right?  Makes sense, since you won't have to struggle to re-align them.

Another small update. Her Custom Level 2 super.

Now I wish to show you all more, but screen caps won't do it justice. Sad news, I accidentally over wrote my Specials, EX-Specials, and Supers states. So I had to code them again (I still have a few specials left). But good news, it's a minor set back, and I'm gonna work on that short video soon enough. School is almost done, and I'll have a lot more time. So stay tuned! :cool

LOL I hear ya. I need to set release dates for my other characters. Just need to get my head cleared, and see what needs to be done next.

Man, that edited Kikoshou or whatever looks damn sick.  That pic right there is good enough for a background, and if your word is anything, in action it will look amazing!
