You options are very limited and it all depends on what you're actaully trying to achieve.

along the same lines of werewood's seth however whenever i try to transfer the image into fighter factory it comes out very pixelated as the sprite only shows if i covert it to a pcx file from a 256 colour bitmap file, any options?

You're stuck with 256 color pcx files but make sure you're converting the sprites yourself in some type of graphic software, don't let fighter factory do it for you. This will ensure the best convertion. Outside of that you're out of luck.

What software would you recommend i use to convert to 256 colour pcx?

GIMP Image Editor or Photoshop. Things like that can do it easily and help reduce color problems, like the different color compression methods.

Gimp is good I hear. I use Paint Shop Pro, it's better suited for sprites than Photo Shop.
