I decided to do this so I can spread the word on different authors, new characters, stages, fuul games, ect. This is my first one that I did. The first person I decided to do is Nestor & his Capcom Fighting All-Stars Full game. If any new or pro mugen creators wants to be interviewed, just PM me.
Me - What was your motivation to make this project?
Well, since the time I knew about mugen (I think like 8 years ago)
I was fascinated with it... and through 2007, I think a MUGEN project
would be fun... considering I played and enjoyed a lot of Capcom games,
I decided to do a project based on it but with the touch of the Vs. Series.
Me - Sweet! Since you have the name "Capcom Fighting All-Stars" as your title,
do you think we'll see one of the three characters from the original game?
I'm not saying you have to, it's just a thought.
Ingrid will be in the game, and for the other 2, MAYBE DD could appear...
just time will tell.
Me - OK, Is their going to be a story to it? If so, what's it about?
We're still doing some concepts about the history, so right now I can't
tell you the final one... FeLo Llop also bring some good concepts, that
involve a franchise unexpected, like Dino Crisis, into the main history.
FeLo is helping in this area, and so far his ideas are very nice.
Me - It's cool, Now on to the Roster. Are the characters you've chosen in your
Roster is final, or are you still taking more characters into consideration?
The chars you've seen so far revealed in the CFAS sigs are confirmed,
although their designs could suffer changes (Leon and Viewtiful Joe for
example). We're also considering other characters, that we'll reveal once
we got a good progress.
Me - Yea, I know Joe is going throught a huge overhaul since that sprite is the
same stance from TvC. There's a question I want to ask you about Joe. Are
you going to change some of his moves like his hypers? Some people will get
bent out of shape since they know the two specials are from Megaman & Jin.
yes, they'll be definitely be changed. He'll probably get one or two from
TvC/MvC3 and I'll take a look at the VJ games again to take some ideas
for other moves. I think his moveset can be extended to some very crazy
hyper combos.
Me - Good to know! Now, I know a few months ago, you set up a poll for the next
character to be work on for the project. If I'm correct, the three were
Wesker, Saki & Frank West. Since Wesker won, will there still be any hope
for one of the rejects to be in?
Yes. Personally, I'd like to see both Saki and Frank in the game, but you
know, sometimes you say "this char will be in the game" and in the end you
can't get to that point... If everything works fine with the work we have
by now, then you can expect one of them to make the cut.
Me - OK! Now I want to talk to you about the stages. I notice most of them is
CPS2 style. Was that your idea for the stages in the first place?
Not at all. I also considered a style similar to the one seen in Capcom
Fighting Evolution, but in the end, we decided to go with the CPS-2 style.
Me - Really? Because if you was going with CFE type stages, you'll have to draw
them out and I think it'll look real messy. To me, It's a good thing you
switch. Less work to do.
Yes, I especially think they'd look bad after looking at some of the
stages (the one I remember the most is Myanmar, with Sagat, Adon and
Dhalsim in the BG). Although we'll get some material from the CPS-2 games,
I hope we can do some original stages with sprites from scratch.
Me - Same here! Now I want to talk to you about the screenpack. You went to
octagon design, to MvC1 style, to the other design. I forgot which design
that was inspired by. But I just have to ask, which design are you going
with?
Hehe, I've had so many ideas related to the SP. I think it's one of the
most important parts to invite people to play the game. Right now,
riccochet decided to create a concept for the SP. In the end, all will be
customizable, so you'll be able to choose the SP you like the most. The
octagon design will be one of them.
Me - Awesome! Because like everyone else, I really like the octagon style,
it gives you the hint that it's a REAL full game.
Thanks!
Me - No Problem! Now I know you said something about downloadable content &
unlockables once the game comes out. How are you going to do that?
Ohh that's very interesting. We reached a point in which we thought a
certain franchise was already overloaded. I always think every character
deserves a spot in a game, so the DLC was the key. In the main roster,
there'll be some locked chars; you'll get their password once you finish
the game as x or y character. The DLC will be available to be added as
soon as you like, or don't be added at all. It's up to you if you would
like to add these characters, although we'll give them a related history
within the game.
Me - OK, I'll get to the X & Y characters after I ask you this question.
I know the select def will be molebox. Let's say the game picks a character
to fight you, but the character is either unavaliable or off limits until
the next update. How is that going to work properly?
Good question! All this will deal with the order of the characters. While
the main roster will have different orders (example, Ryu order 1 and Batsu
order 3), we'll not include the characters that aren't done yet in the
roster. In the case of the DLC, in the select.def they'll appear like:
DLC-1
DLC-2
So, if you fight against them, you'll fight them with order 1. If you don't
have DLC, the game will take it as an empty space. IIRC there're some
versions of MUGEN in which doesn't matter if you put order or not, if you
don't have a character, they'll not appear at all and the game will not
crash, but this will be seen further.
Me - Awesome! Now about the "X" & "Y" characters. What do you mean by them?
Leo & Ryu, Ryu & Charlie... all the possible combinations, nothing more.
Some passwords for the locked chars will require to finish the game as 2
chars, so you can get the correct pass to unlock another char.
Me - I see, & for that you're working on all the characters to make sure it
happens like that right?
Yes. The endings will show a password and a pic of the char you'll be able
to unlock, as well as the part of the pass you have.
Me - I see. About you working on the characters to work like that, are we going
to see some interactivity in the game like break-away stages, point systems,
winquotes, stuff like that?
Yes. We still need to define which stages will have this feature, or even
other features. Point systems, I've been working on a score system since
some time. Winquotes definitely, and also, the one I like the most, the
pre-fighting dialogue, like in SFA3 or SvC Chaos. I think it will be funny
see some interactivity between chars, like Jin with Stider Hien, or Dante
with Viewtiful Joe.
Me - Sweet! There's a franchise I want to talk to you about because I have a
feeling this person might be in it. It's the Star Gladiator Series. Now, I
think Hayato might have a spot. So I'm just going to ask, are any of the
other chatacters from that game are being in discussion right now?
Not right now, but we discussed another possible characters of SG/PS,
one of them is June. Li Kun did a great design of her some time ago, and
although it could need more detail, is very impressive.
Me - The sprite Li Kun did was impressive. I also notice he did a 2 breath of
fire characters.
Thanks! and well, those are concepts right now, we're seeing the
possibilities to include them, but right now we're full with our wips.
Me - Ok, cool! Next up is the music. I'm still surprise that you have Wizzy for
the music. Did you want him to join because it was the kind of music he was
doing you want for your project?
At first, Nilakantha proposed to do the full soundtrack of the game.
Considering the quantity of characters, I thought at the moment that it
would be a huge ammount of tracks for only one person, so I told him to do
tracks only for some chars. Then, Daeron told me about Wizzy songs.
The first one I hear was Batsu's (which was also made for Daeron), and I
think it was a great song. Some time later, I decided it would be great
that both Nila and Wizzy could work in the OST, and that's what happened.
Right now, both of them are working on the OST, and their work has been
wonderful so far!
Me - Sweet! Now here's some questions that are from me personally from me, and
it deals with a certain character. Akito Now I must admit, you actually have
me a fan of him... even though he's a WIP. So I'm just going to ask.
What is the current status on him?
Thanks! Right now O Ilusionista will work on him. He still need some work,
but I'm sure O will do a great job with him.
Me - O's coding him now? Ok, I know I'll look out for him now! I remember when
you was showing him off on your old videos. One of his moves caught the
attention of Balrog. I also know he's a sprite edit of Burai from BBB. So,
is he like Balrog or is he's going to have mostly original moves?
Actually he reminds me more of Shen Woo. He'll have a pair of original moves,
although right now it's up to Ilusionista which ones will be kept from the
version I sent him.
Me - Oh i see. I also know the limit to the sprites that Li Kun edited. So, did
he ever make some more sprites to fill in the blank spots like some of the
crouching & aireal attacks?
Actually, Li Kun will do some sprites for a win pose of Akito. Most, if not
all of the sprites were edited by Akito Sama (he worked on Elecman), and he
edited a pair of attacks more.
Me - Ok, cool! Now one last question. Not to rush you but, when will you think
they'll be a demo for the game?
We're doing our best towards a beta release, I can't say a date really,
but maybe it will be sooner than what you think.
