I think that while most characters will work in 1.0, there's still a few bugs that can show up.  This page from Elecbyte's wiki has more information:

well it's sorta on topic, the new stuff in 1.0 that I have to update mostly is the fact that it supports widescreen, so i have to code around it so people can use him in any resolution without looking weird. and besides that I've changed since the previous version. all of my mvc2/vs works will go through this treatment.

no, that was a mistake on my part, redownload ryu and change his folder name to MvC2RyuW he should work just fine in winmugen.
