Commisioning sprites?
« on: March 15, 2010, 02:29:13 PM »
Hello all, I was wondering if any of the great artists we have here for sprite work feel about accepting a commission? I want to get into Mugen character cretion but my art ability is....well crap. If you feel like it just post what you feel a fair price would be for sprites and sheets and stuff of that nature and we'll talk. Actually commissioning for me is up in the air on a date because I'm low on money for now. So right now I'm just looking for options and a general idea what it would cost me.

Whatever the character is, $40.85 and I'll sprite it for you.

lol, dude, we don't charge for sprite work, it's just a hobbie. :DxDie And I suggest you post what character(s) you are interested in working on, that's really how you get people to work on a project with you, because if they're interested in spriting it, they'll most likely join, good luck finding help.

Well true, but at the same time fanart is done for a hobby and so is translating manga, and it can be commisioned for both. Its a fair trade for services if people don't like the idea.

Its human female sonic. I want to use the Midnight Bliss verison on youtube but I'm waiting on a reply from the author.

And to be honest I'll consider you as commissionable even with that price. But thats soley up to you what you may want to do. Is it better to ask 40 dollars a pop and I use you once or maybe 20 dollars if I wanted more characters. Its all up in the air whats a fair trade at this point.

1 sprite sheet is considered a work of art so about $500.00 for a sprite sheet, I think that's the going price of pop art by an unknown artist when presented in a gallery. As for programming ,that's by the hour with paid lunches, I think $30.00 an hour is good for an experienced programmer.

Well I'm grateful for the replys, even if the idea is apperently silly to people. I just know and have done it on occasion in other areas such as fanart and manga translation. I'm working with a friend and we both know basic so programing is no problem. Unfortantly together we may have the ability to draw a stick figure. I'll announce the project in a few weeks if we decide to do this and maybe we will find someone who wants to work with us.

If someone would do a paid commission let me know in this thread though.

I think he's talking about custom sprites... it's like if I would ask for CvS Nero sprites. Maybe I could get a pair, but not all the 500+ sprites needed to make a complete char.
IIRC, Andres Borghi already did a character for some who asked him, but don't know the cost.

I believe it was somewhere in the ballpark of $2200, but it was also part of some branding campaign as far as I can tell.

MUGEN IS NOT ABOUT MONEY!!!

Let me put it this way, in order for me to make 1000 sprites for a character it has to be something I enjoy working on. As much as i enjoy Sonic the hedgehog, characters, games, cartoon. I couldn't really see me making those characters for mugen. At least not for under $10,000 each...lol You have to find someone that has a love of the concept, so they will just help you for free.
