Broad Street *Rain & Rainless Version Released - 1/9/2010
« on: January 09, 2010, 11:47:37 PM »
Still taking a break from doing more with The Renegade Lounge. So, it's time for another Stage Variant release. Stage has been updated!

Broad Street

Rain Version

Rainless Version

Stages > Forward to Page 2

Here are the release notes

Quote
1/11/2010 - Update

Only a minor X Delta update for both City Backdrops. Both also have second
values to use for the reflections. So they would attain a more natural
feel to their respective image being used. A minor cosmetic fix was also
done, to correct a small bit of shearing, in the left part of the stage.
Though barely noticable, it was indeed an eyesore at best.

Special Thanks to Sabaki for the suggestion of adding a value to the
X Delta for the backdrops. And thanks go to BlazinTre on Youtube, for
pointing out the shearing on the left half of the stage.

As for the lines of code mentioned in the above quote, you will see two sets of City background images. The city Images only can be seen when moving the stage to the right. As seen below.

This image, is the default image that it is already set for.

This one, is of the alternate city background, that is mentioned above.

To switch, see below:

Code: [Select]
[BG City]
type = normal
spriteno = 3,0 ;Switch to 3,1 to use alternate city background
layerno = 0
start = 0, 0
delta = 0, 0
mask = 0
tile = 3 , 0

[BG City Reflection]
type = normal
spriteno = 4, 1    ;Switch to 4,0 to use alternate city reflection background
layerno = 0
start = 0, 0
delta = 0, 0
mask = 0
tile = 3 , 0

Enjoy. Feedback is welcome.

EDIT: The Archive has been updated.

Music from Mission 2 of Double Dragon 2 for PCE-CD has been added

You can listen to it .

That's cool. Take as much time as you need.

I did have the idea of putting the edited police cruiser in from Codename Sailor V (Beats of Rage), to try and fit the setting. This is a test image, to see if it would fit into it.

Tell me what you think, and I may keep it in, and make the update.

I really like the style of the stage. If feels like it has alot of depth since it has a further backdrop when you move to the right. Everything from the positioning of the benches, garages, lamps down to the atmoshpere the bgm produces makes this stage a keeper. It's the type of stage I would use to make vids with (if I ever get back to doing that).

A few suggestions (although I'm not a stage maker, so I don't know if these points will be useful or anything):

1) The city backdrop doesn't quite feel as natural as it should the way it doesn't scroll as you progress further to the right. Is it possible to have it scroll in the same way the foregraound (building, garages) scrolls, but much slower?

2) The lighting illuminates a dark street the way it should. However, just for more interaction purposes, is it possible to make some of the street lamps flicker on and off periodically? I know animating stuff for a stage can be troublesome at times, but if it could be pulled off I think I'll really give the stage more of a busy feel.

That's all I've noticed. Still love the stage. As for the police car, I think it'll ruin the stage. If there's a huge demand for it, though, maybe you can make it a separate .sff? Keep up the good work  :)

@ Sabaki: Yeah, I can go ahead and see about altering the X Delta position for both of the images, for the city backdrops. It should be able to give it a natural feel to it. As for the lights, there should be no problem in getting them to be like that. I wanted to run the test of using them in this manner first as solid lights. Just to see the outcome. Since the outcome is looking good, I can now give animating them a try. It shouldn't be too hard

For the car though, yeah, it does seem out of place. But making a separate sff file if enough demand for this, doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. I'll see how many give a response. If there is enough, I'll just make a separate sff. The car only has one animation. The light at the top functions, despite the car doesn't move.

@EXShadow: If enough demand calls for adding the car in, I'll add it in. So far, it's up in the air at this point. We will see what happens.

EDIT
: Looks like trying to animate the lights, doesn't seem to be working that much in my favor for some reason. So for now, I'll just update the delta for the city backdrops. And proceed to update the archive in the process, when I get home.

Sounds good. If the lights are too much trouble, it's not a tremendous loss. Still, hoping that altering the x Delta (using your terminology ;) ) for both images will make things look much natural. Hope you get more responses at other sites about the police car as well.

I'm back at home, and the stage is updated. Check first post. Also, here is the settings for the city backdrops, since both now have adjustable values.

Code: [Select]
[BG City]
type = normal
spriteno = 3,0 ;Switch to 3,1 to use alternate city background
layerno = 0
start = 0, 0
delta = .12, 0  ;Switch to .15 to use alternate city background depth
mask = 0
tile = 3 , 0

[BG City Reflection]
type = normal
spriteno = 4, 1    ;Switch to 4,0 to use alternate city reflection background
layerno = 0
start = 0, 0
delta = .12, 0     ;Switch to .15 to use alternate city background depth
mask = 0
tile = 3 , 0

Both city backdrops and their reflections now have their own delta setup. Just remember to change it back to the original, when you want to switch. The X Delta value isn't much of a difference. Hardly noticeable, but it's the thought that counts.  :)

No problem. And I can also see, that the notice on my stages page seems to be working correctly. So at least now, there is a good visual warning for those using IE.

I've received a LOT of thanks for putting the notice up. Made things easier on my end.
