An arrest warrant was issued for contestant Ryan Alexander Jenkins as a suspect in the murder of Jasmine Fiore, a 28-year-old swimsuit model who had recently moved to the Los Angeles area from Las Vegas.[19] Fiore's body was found in a suitcase near a dumpster in Buena Park, California.[20][21]

On August 19, 2009, VH1 placed the series on indefinite hiatus. The network also released the following official statement:

    Ryan Jenkins was a contestant on Megan Wants A Millionaire, an outside production, produced and owned by 51 Minds, that is licensed to VH1. The show completed production at the end of March. Given the unfortunate circumstances, VH1 has postponed any future airings. This is a tragic situation and our thoughts go out to the victim’s family.[7]

All mentions of the program, beyond the single statement above, have been removed from VH1.com. The remaining run of the series has also been pulled from the iTunes Store, cable video on demand services, and the network's schedule.[22]

On August 20, 2009, TMZ reported that Jenkins was formally charged for the murder of Fiore,[23] all but assuring VH1's cancellation of the series the following day. [8][9] The future of the third season of I Love Money, on which Jenkins was reportedly a contestant, is now in doubt as well. The search for Jenkins would end three days later on August 23, when Jenkins was found dead in Hope, British Columbia, reportedly having hanged himself.[10]

Too late! I Love Money Season 3 is gone. My question is why in the hell was he on the show and he has money? I look forward to I Love Money!!!

I Love Money 3 was to be a follow up to the previous seasons of the show. The contestants were to be selected from other VH1 reality shows such as Rock of Love, Real Chance of Love, Daisy of Love, For the Love of Ray J, as well as Megan Wants a Millionaire. Reportedly, I Love Money 3 was set to air in January 2010.[4] In August 2009, VH1 postponed any showings of season three due to castmember Ryan Jenkins' possible involvement in the murder of model Jasmine Fiore.[5] It was reported that Ryan Jenkins won I Love Money 3 and went to the 51 Minds office to request an early cut of the $250,000 check just days after Jasmine's death, but was denied.[6] On August 20, 2009, Ryan Jenkins was charged with the murder of Jasmine Fiore. Three days later, the body of Jenkins was found in Hope, British Columbia, with Jenkins reportedly hanging himself in a motel. The day prior, Megan Wants a Millionaire was cancelled.[7][8] On August 24, 2009, VH1 announced on its website that season three of I Love Money would not air.
