Tone down the overpowered characters
« on: June 07, 2009, 03:03:22 AM »
I have some overpowered characters in my roster like: Sandman, Wonder Woman, MvC Terry, Gouki, Dragon Claw, MvC Hayato and more..

These characters are super fast have a scary AI that I barely have the chance to beat them (or even be a match for them) even in the easiest level.

I understand that I could tweak them and change their Speed/Life/Power values, but will changing the speed value make them response slower (AI slower?) or just make their whole animation and movement slower?

If anyone has a suggestion for a solution I would be very happy :)

I don't know about every character, but I found that if you right click on your character's cmd file and select edit, then scroll down and look for something like this:

[State -1, AIActivate]
type = VarSet
triggerall = var(59) != 1
triggerall = RoundState != 3
;triggerall = p2life > 0
trigger1 = command = "cpu1"
trigger2 = command = "cpu2"
trigger3 = command = "cpu3"
trigger4 = command = "cpu4"
trigger5 = command = "cpu5"
var(59) = 1

You can either switch var(59) = 1 to var(59) = 0, or just delete the lines like trigger5 = command = "cpu5", and that works too. The more trigger lines you delete, the less aggressive they become.

I haven't tried this on everyone, just some of the completely insane characters like Flash from Scruffy Dragon, and a few others. Hope it helps.  :)

Thanks shulbocka, I might try some of your suggestions :)

Can someone else either confirm shulbocka's ideas or suggest his own?
(I want to know what the majority of members do with overpowered characters)

It really does depend on the character, and what makes them overpowered.

shulbocka's suggestion will shut down the AI, which should make a lot of characters easier to beat (like Reu's or a lot of the Scruffy chars). Some chars are overpowered due to being too fast, doing too much damage, having moves where they can't be hit, or having infinite priority on their attacks. You'll just have to experiment with things a little bit (just remember to back up your chars before you start messing with them). Reading up on character creation will help you out alot in being able to tell what the problem with a certain character is.
