Having issues with fighter factory.
« on: January 24, 2009, 10:46:11 PM »
Hi everyone...I've been lurking on here for a little while.I'm a noob,I decided I wanted to make a character, and I checked out the tutorials and wotnot, namely spidermews.I have FF and GIMP.How do you change gif files into pcx? How do you compartmentalize pcx spritesheets into "frame-by-frame"? b/c when I load the sprites into FF I get the whole sheet.ATICE's "Basic character creation tutorial" won't run on my pc and all the tutorials I've seen also assume I know certain things..when in fact,on these matters,I'm quite ignorant.I can install chr/stages/snd but that's all.    Thanks for your time.

Ok, to chage a gif file into a pcx file with the gimp, its simple.
Grap the part of the image you want, be it from a sheet or the whole thing if its a single sprite.
Coppy
Start a new file
Make sure the background is the color you want to end up becoming transparent, then paste.
Then At the top there is a drop down menu that says image, click then scroll down to mode, then hit indexed.
Then save, and just name it whatver your making .pcx and boom!

^:)^,thanks Spidermew...what about seperating the palletes(sprite sheets)? Do I need to make a GIMP file for each posture or is there a more appropriate way?

Every sprite on the sheet has to have its own file. But if you want to make a palete file easy, after youve seperated all the sprites, use the sheet itself to make a huge pcx file, and use that to do the trick you saw in my video. That way your sure you have all the sprite colors.
