Saw something awful today....
« on: November 13, 2008, 12:10:00 AM »
I know this is a little more serious than what usually gets posted here, but this has disturbed me enough to where I need to talk about it somewhere....

This morning on my way to work I saw a man jump off of an overpass into morning rush-hour traffic on the interstate. A couple of cars hit him when he hit the pavement, and it caused a ton of cars to crash. It's been messing with me all day, and I can't really seem to stop thinking about it. Dude's head pretty much exploded....

I'm not even sure why I'm even posting about this here.... It was just so messed up.... I see things like this on in the news and on TV all the time, but I never imagined it could shake me up so much when it happens in real life....

If anybody here has any advice on coping with something like this, I could really use it....

well, that's indeed something awful, but the guy must have his reason to do so...remember that at this moment a big crisis is coming to USA and many ppl lost their job or a lot of money, which could have lead that guy to do what he did
Just try to distract yourself from that image with something:go outside with friends, play some games, but things like that might be carved in your mind forever
It's always hard to see death right arround the corner...
a few years ago while i was at gym class,a friend of mine was hit by a bus and died instantly on his way to the place.I still remember in my mind the faces of my classmates that actually saw what happened and the ones who dared to look at the place of the accident...it was horrible

This will probably be scarred into your memory forever. Although over time you can get over it by occupying yourself with things to do.

Something similar actually happened last year. I was on my way to school and there was a huge traffic jam, so I called the school on my phone to let them know that I'm late. When I got to school I talked to one the gym teacher after overhearing that he witnessed what happened. Basically some guy walked in the street and got ran over by about 4 cars. Although with the bad economy at the time (this was around the time the state was about to shut down), the teacher was easily able to keep his mind off it, but I'm pretty sure he still remembers it till today.

Try to do things you love to forget about it. For instance, a hobby of some sort. Also, you should try and hang out with good friends.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I've been having some internet trouble the last couple of days, otherwise I would have come here sooner.

I have been trying to keep myself distracted from thinking about, hanging out with family and friends. The initial shock is starting to dull, but its going to be weird for awhile since I drive through that spot every day to get to and from work. I'm feeling better now after having a chance to talk about it, too.

For those of you that asked, this happened in Illinois, on I-355 in the Chicago suburbs. Those of you who live near Chicago may have heard about this on the news. I haven't heard yet if they determined exactly why he did it, but there's no question that it was suicide.

Again, thanks to everyone who responded.

I'm sorry you had to see something like that. I'm sure if I saw that, i'd be in the same position. Though, I haven't seen anything like that before and I hope I never do.
