I was going to download some of the sprite packs on the main page here (the front page), but none of them seem to work. Are they down or something?

Dunno. I am using FireFox so....don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I download them, and their empty inside.

try kong`s mediafire folder...he has those rips there as back up
