you can shrink and enlarge images with gimp, you have to make sure your colors are indexed when you do it or it flattens it.

Its part of gimp in mode --> indexed.

And real conversion to low-res is resizing the sprites and re-aligning.

ok, one more question to help me out, which is the prefered size of shrinking sprites?

If i were you, ide do it in % untill you get something about the size of the standard stage size or whatnot.
% that are mutples of 5 I find come out looking cleaner then just any number.
